ABOUT THE POSITION

As a Communications Operator, you'll play a crucial role in our Department of Protective Services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operating multi-frequency radio systems and computer-aided dispatch equipment
  • Receiving and transmitting incident reports and assistance requests
  • Maintaining dispatch logs and entering data into computer terminals
  • Answering telephone inquiries and relaying calls for emergency services

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range is $4,598 – $7,163/month.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade

Experience: (One of the following)

  • Six months in California state service performing Dispatcher-Clerk duties
  • One year of dispatching experience with radio communications equipment
  • Two years of experience involving substantial public contact and multitasking responsibilities

The Department of State Hospitals (DSH) manages the California state hospital system, which provides mental health services to patients admitted into DSH facilities. The department strives to provide effective treatment in a safe environment and in a fiscally responsible manner.

In fiscal year 2019-2020, the department served 9,211 patients and employed nearly 13,000 staff in a 24/7 hospital system. We have locations in Atascadero, Coalinga, Los Angeles, Napa, and Patton.
